Fan-Owned St Mirren Turned Two European Ties Into a Profit

In the 2024-25 season covered by these accounts, which run to May 2025, St Mirren played in the Conference League qualifiers, beating Valur before going out to Brann. In the league, they finished sixth, making the top six. The club is majority fan-owned: supporters' group SMiSA holds 51%, with charity partner Kibble owning 27.5%.

Turnover rose by around 34% to around £9m, up from around £6m. The club said the result was significantly boosted by income from the Conference League matches, a reminder of how much a single European summer is worth to a club of this size, where a handful of extra home games can move the whole year.

Staff costs rose by around 13% to around £5m, around 60% of turnover. That discipline is why the extra European money fell through to the bottom line rather than being spent on wages that would still need paying once the European run was over. It is the approach a fan-owned club, with no benefactor behind it, has to take.

The club made a pre-tax profit of around £0.5m, reversing a loss of around £0.5m the year before. Cash rose to around £2m and net assets to around £9m, one of the stronger balance sheets outside the big clubs. St Mirren kept the wage bill in check when the extra money came in, and the accounts show the reward.
