Executive Summary
UK insolvency activity held broadly flat in June 2026, with 2,185 total appointments recorded against 2,191 in June 2025 (-6, -0%). While the headline number was stable, the composition shifted markedly: Admin/CVA appointments rose to 170 — a year-on-year increase of 52 (+44%) and the highest monthly count seen in the 2026 series. This continues the sustained elevation in complex insolvency activity that has characterised 2026 against the prior year.
On a cumulative basis (January–June), Admin/CVA appointments total 867, running +117 (+16%) ahead of the same six-month period in 2025 (750). The cumulative YTD total of 14,625 remains -663 (-4%) behind 2025's 15,288, driven by declines in MVL (4,204 vs 4,526, -322) and CVL/Other (9,554 vs 10,012, -458), both of which fell again in June. The divergence between a softening routine liquidation market and a rising complex appointment market is the defining characteristic of 2026 so far.
Construction featured heavily in June's notable appointments: Ardmore Construction Group Ltd (£343.8m turnover, 541 staff, Begbies Traynor), Devonshire Homes Ltd (£52.4m, Alvarez & Marsal), and Zentia Ltd (£48.1m, Interpath) all entered administration. The property-adjacent bridging and development finance sector also contributed significantly, with Solar Bridging Limited (22 entities, £185.7m trade debtors, EY) and LX Property Ltd (26 entities, FRP Advisory) both appointed in the month.

About the SPK Index: The SPK Index is a proprietary algorithm managed by Spark that ranks firms based on a weighted combination of appointment volume, complexity (by company size), and appointment type. A firm with fewer appointments but higher-complexity cases can outrank a firm with higher raw volume. Read the full methodology →
