Saracens Spent the Most, Lost the Most, and Still Own the Building

In the 2024-25 season covered by these accounts, Saracens finished 6th in the Premiership with 56 points, missing the play-offs. The lowest point of their season came in December 2024, a 68-10 defeat away at Bath, the worst loss in the club's Premiership history. Their Champions Cup campaign ended in the round of 16, thrashed 72-42 at Toulon.

The accounts show turnover of around £21m and a pre-tax loss of close to £9m, the largest single loss of any club in this dataset. Staff costs of roughly £16m are also the highest wage bill among these clubs, meaning Saracens spent more on their squad than anyone else in the league and lost more money doing it than anyone else too.

Yet the picture isn't uniformly bleak. Net assets stand at around plus £6m, putting Saracens among a small group of Premiership clubs with a positive balance sheet, a legacy of the ownership and financial restructuring that followed the club's 2019-20 salary cap breach and relegation. Saracens' season is a reminder that a heavy wage bill doesn't guarantee results: the club with the biggest spend in this dataset produced its biggest single loss, a heavy European exit and one of the most one-sided results in Premiership history, while still holding onto a balance sheet healthier than most of its rivals.
