Dundee Survived on the Final Day, and Their Accounts Say Very Little About How
Dundee file small-company accounts, so there's no turnover, profit or staff cost figure for 2024-25. What is filed shows a club with very thin margins.
In the 2024-25 season covered by these accounts, which run to May 2025, Dundee finished tenth, avoiding the relegation play-off by winning on the final day. The day after the season ended, manager Tony Docherty was sacked, despite having led the club into the top six the year before. Steven Pressley was appointed in June 2025.
Dundee file small-company accounts, which means the filing doesn't disclose turnover, pre-tax profit or staff costs. That puts them among the least transparent clubs in the league. We can't compare their income with their rivals, or say how much of it went on the squad that scraped clear of the play-off place on the last day of the season.
What is filed is thin. Cash at the year end was under £0.5m and the balance sheet showed net liabilities of around £0.5m. The club employed 85 people. The previous year's accounts put staff costs at around £4.5m, which gives a rough sense of the scale of the football operation.
A club with that little cash and negative net assets has limited room for error. Finishing eleventh would have meant a play-off, with the risk of dropping into a league with far less broadcast and gate money. That makes the final-day escape look even more important financially than it did on the pitch.
Dundee finished eighth in 2025-26 and remain in the Premiership for 2026-27.
Dundee's accounts give away almost nothing, but negative net assets and very little cash suggest a club that could not afford to go down.
Filed by THE DUNDEE FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED (company SC004585), for the year to 2025-05-31.
