Dundee United Broke £10m for the First Time and Earned Europe on Their Return

In the 2024-25 season covered by these accounts, Dundee United were back in the Premiership after winning the Championship the year before, and Jim Goodwin's side finished fourth. That secured European football, a remarkable return for a club that had spent the previous season in the second tier and was expected by many to spend its first year back looking over its shoulder.

Turnover rose by around 65% to around £11m, up from around £6m, the first time the club has passed £10m. Top-flight crowds and record commercial income of close to £3m both contributed. It is still a fraction of what the Glasgow clubs earn, but it lifted United past Motherwell, Kilmarnock and St Mirren on income.

Staff costs rose by around 22% to around £6m, but because turnover grew much faster, wages fell to around 60% of turnover from over 80% the year before. That is one of the healthier ratios in the league, and the club reported a small EBITDA profit for the year, a sign it is spending within its means rather than chasing results with money it doesn't have.

The pre-tax loss shrank to around £0.5m from around £3m. The balance sheet is the weak point: net liabilities of around £5m and cash of under £0.5m at the year end, reflecting past losses funded by American owner Mark Ogren. On the pitch and in the accounts, though, this was the best year Dundee United have had in a long time.
